3 Sensory and Fine Motor St. Patrick’s Day Activities for Toddlers
Today, I am sharing 3 sensory and fine-motor St. Patrick’s Day activities that I did with my toddler when she was two.
I’m sure you are bound to find an activity that your toddler will love this St. Patrick’s Day. If so, let me know in the comments below!
1. Leprechaun Sensory Bin
Our first activity involved some color practice. There isn’t a better holiday to learn about colors than St. Patrick’s Day, and green is the first color that comes to mind. Thus, we started our activity train by talking about the color green.
First, Tawny and I went on a St. Patrick’s Day scavenger hunt around the house and collected green items and put them in her Leprechaun hat.
She had a blast making a mess with all these random items that she normally doesn’t play with for hours! This is one of the most amazing things about loose parts. They open a door for open-ended and imaginary play.
One of his favorite green items that he found was a roll of green streamers. She had a blast shredding it into pieces. She even let me wrap her up into a Leprechaun mummy!
2. Green Leaf Clover Hand Print
What is more sensory than rubbing your hands in paint?
For this activity I put green washable Crayola paint on a paper plate and let Tawny paint her own hands. I provided a paint brush, but she enjoyed rubbing her hands straight in the paint.
Then, with my guidance, I stamped her hands four times to form the shape of a four-leaf clover.
3. Read A St. Patrick’s Day Book
Reading is very important in our household. We try to go to Barnes and Nobles at least once a month and pick out fascinating books.
This year, Tawny picked out “The Itsy Bitsy Leprechaun” by Jeffery Burton. You could do this activity/ craft with any St. Patty’s Day-themed book though. He was fascinated with all of the colors and animals in the book. After reading we decided to build our craft day around what we read in this book.
