As summer is starting to wind down…I can’t even believe I am typing that seeing that I feel like summer JUST started…it is fun to reflect on what you have been able to do and what you would like to do before the start of school. I know for us, we like parks, swimming, the zoo and crafting. I usually take our favorites and squeeze it into the last remaining days. For us, that means traveling to new and exciting parks we have not been to, enjoying the zoo for all it has to offer and breaking out the glue sticks and construction paper. For others, your last days of summer are squeezing in your final family vacation, getting school supplies under way, and hanging out at home as a family. Each family dynamic is so different and special in its own way. Here are some last minute summertime activities that might spark you or your family’s interests.
Running a 5K together. Exercise is a great way to get everyone connected and healthy. If your family is old enough, they may enjoy this quite a bit.
Exploring a new park! My kids LOVE to explore and a new environment does their soul wonders! Check out the latest park craze with a good ole Google search of your location.
Break out the sprinkler, slip ‘n slide and/or baby pool. Cool off with the most simple of simple…the baby pool, slip ‘n slide and/or sprinkler. Sometimes we make “having fun” more of a chore for us than fun. Let the kiddos create the fun with this one.
Organize the toy bin. I know this sounds less then fun but my kids actually really enjoy this one. At the end of the summer, we make 2 piles of all toys…the KEEP pile and the DONATE pile. We then drop the toys off to a local shelter house where we hand them off. It is a great way to get your kids serving others in a very tangible way.
Final Thought:
It doesn’t matter where or what you decide to do with your summer honestly…as long as your kids feel like they a part of your excitement, a part of your day, and a part of making fun memories. Sometimes it is more about the time spent together than the actual activity itself. Keep it simple, have fun and enjoy the journey!
